Medical devices
Eurordis welcomed the initiative to amend the Council Directive on medical devices and the opportunity for patient representatives to join the debate for the first time.
The contribution calls on the Commission to recognise the role of patients as interested parties and underlines the importance of medical devices for rare disease patients. It discusses cost as a public health issue and draws attention to the inappropriate systems of reimbursement for specialised devices by national health schemes. The creation of a “Humanitarian Medical Device” label to tackle the fundamental issue of accessibility for all is proposed.
